A Sunday FUNDAY!!

The Movie, Magic & More Event that took place yesterday at The Strand Theater was an awesome event!

Thank you so much to all those friends of Reconnecting Families that turned out for this amazing event.  The historical Strand Theater was the perfect venue for our fundraising, and all who attended enjoyed the festivities.  The doors opened with the Marietta High School Cheerleaders offering face painting.  This was a HUGE hit for the kids, and we were all impressed with the cheeleader's artistic talent:

After face painting, the kids got settled for Howie the Great!  Rave reviews were heard my all who watched as his tricks and magic marveled the crowds.  If you haven't seen Howie's act, you should definitely check him out.

After the magic, Charlotte's Web, the classic, provided the grand finale.  We all know the story from our childhood and loved getting to visit with the old friends on the farm.

Another integral member of the team that made this event a success is the volunteers from the Marietta/Cobb Junior League.  Thanks Ladies!

Ending on September 1, 2011, is Reconnecting Families partnership with Deal Steward which began in May in order to help promote the Deal Steward organization to community members in Cobb County. This partnership in return has donated and continues to donate money for Reconnecting Families by giving a percent of the online sales proceeds to our non-profit program.

Also, do not forget that Deal Steward has organized a 90-day member drive, and the drive is almost over! For each member that registers with a Cobb County email address, which is determined by zip code, Deal Steward will donate $1.00 to the Reconnecting Families organization through September 1, 2011.

HARRY'S MARKET REMINDER

Harry's Market DONATE YOUR DIME campaign is back and in gear!  Don't forget to keep saving those extra dimes and other spare change. Next time you are in Harry's Market checking out tell your cashier you want to donate your dime!

Starting this week, Reconnecting Families will set up a booth during lunch in the market. There will be a member from RF at the booth and there will be information on the Reconnecting Families program and a place for you to donate.

Don't be shy, come in and show your support to not only RF but to Harry's Fresh Market!

Give a Little, Get a Lot

Reconnecting Families recently partnered with Deal Steward in May of 2011 in order to help promote the Deal Steward organization to community members in Cobb County. Deal Steward is a Cobb County based "Daily Deals" company dedicated to bringing Cobb County consumers 50%-80% off the best restaurant, spa, golf, and entertainment deals here in our local area. Aside from the discounts that are offered online, this organization has committed to paying 10% of its proceeds to Reconnecting Families for each transaction that Reconnecting Families is selected on. Selections can be made by the customer during the check-out process on the website. This selection can be made from the drop-down menu during purchase completion.

One Man and a Bike Trip Across America

Hi all:

First of all, thanks. I have had some contact with some of you over the years, but had no email addresses. I may have seen you last 40 years ago, but the memories are still vivid.

I will be departing on Sunday (Easter) from Costa Mesa, CA on a 33 day bicycle ride that ends in Amesbury, MA (near NH border). This is something that I have wanted to do since the establishment of the Bikecentennial Trail in 1976 and the start of Race Across America (RAAM) in the early 80's. I finally decided that if I wait until I retire I may be too old, so I am taking 5 weeks of vacati on to do this. The ride is sponsored by a group called America by Bicycle and in order to do it I had to demonstrate that I could ride 100 miles in 6 hours (I did qualifying rides of 5:37 in February and 5:36 in a rainstorm in March) and since I am a Senior Citizen, I needed a doctor's permission. I also spent a hell of a lot of time since January riding in the dark, in the rain, in horrific winds, etc.). I'm ready!

Of course I am doing the ride for myself, but I will also be sponsored by Special Need Children's Center Foundation, which was started by a friend and colleag ue at work. His son has been in a wheelchair forever, and Zia got pissed off when he had to buy his first wheelchair: not only was it horribly expensive, it was junk. My ride is organized by a group calle d America by Bicycle, and I have my detailed itinerary, including my hotel for each night. I'll be going across NY from Buffalo to just north of Albany, just N of the Finger Lakes. I see that a few of you live in that general area so if you want to drop me a line (I will have intrenet each night) we can arrange to meet for dinner (warning: I will want to eat everything in sight and I can't stay up all night drinking beer). The itinerary is attached. In NY, I will stay in Dunkirk, Batavia, Liverpool and Amsterdam on May 21-24. Mary will meet me in Amesbury, on the 26th.
